Piemonte

There are 59 wine growing regions in Piemonte including the red Barolo, Barbaresco from the Nebbiolo grapes and Barbera and Dolcetto DOCG wines.

The white wines include Gavi from the Cortese grape and Moscato d’Asti and Chardonnay wines. The wine is better from the land higher up on the hills as it gets more sun producing richer and full bodied flavours.

Barbera is the most planted variety in Piedmont delivering a fruity medium bodied taste.Dolcetto has a soft texture and tastes of red plums and raspberries.

Barolo and Barbaresco Nebbiolo based wines only account for 3% of Piemontese production full structured chewy with plenty of power to age for decades.

The Moscato d’Asti fragrantly sweet with an enticing delicate frizzante (Sparkle on the the tip of the tongue) The Gavi from the Cortese grape is the prestigious white of the region, elegant, and crispy dry.

The Chardonnay is extremely rare with a tiny production offering a most delicious ripe apple flavours with hint of pineapple and a refreshing dryness. The traditional Piemonte Mountain cuisine matches superbly with these unique indigenous varietals of the region.
