The Pinot Noir is over 1000 years older than the Cabernet Sauvignon tracing its roots to the Roman era.
Pinot noir derives its name from the French words for ‘pine’ and ‘black’ referring to the grapes tightly clustered pinecone shaped bunches.
Pinot Noir is the 6th most planted red grape variety on the planet, it prefers cool climates and likes to grow in protected valleys or near large bodies of water. It can vary in flavour and value according to which region it is grown in.
It is special because it grows in the Worlds most renowned regions such as Burgundy home of the Pinot Noir reaching up to easily £150 a bottle.
The worlds most coveted Pinot Noir vines grow on a narrow east facing slope just South of Dijon. Burgundy which is an incredibly old wine region and goes back to the Cicercian Monks in the Middle Ages.
It is celebrated for the most famous Vineyard in the Cote de Nuits called Gevrey Chambertin. The rich limestone soil gives a great structured Pinot Noir with complex flavours of dark cherry blackcurrant and oak with tremendous longvity.
